Epsom U13 had a convincing win this morning hosted at Epsom College. Conditions were extremely wet and credit to umpires and both sides for sticking with it as it was extremely difficult in the field with such a damp ball. Looking on the bright side though there were good performances on both side. Dorking opener (Lucas C) batted well for his 40 retired and struck the ball cleanly towards the end of his innings, but Epsom persevered with the slippery ball with Castledine taking 2 wickets up front followed by Mathers and Berry at the end and a number of good spells from the rest of the bowlers (Harris 2 overs for 5 runs, Jalland 2 overs for 3 runs and J Underwood 2 overs for 5 runs). With a fairly slow outfield 105 total by Dorking wasn't the worst but it needed a tight bowling performance. Berry opened up with Underwood and immediately set the tone with a number of crunching fours and good running. Epsom had a small wobble loosing 2 quick wickets before Luca Mursell came to the wicket and put on a good partnership with Berry as he raced to 40 retired in 31 balls. With the ball increasingly masquerading as a bar of soap, bowling continued to be difficult with extras adding 41 to the Epsom total. Muzell and Jalland finished off the innings with a number of fine shots seeing Epsom to their first victory in 2020.
